How to add song lyrics: prepare text and check the right delivery route
Prepare an accurate, authorised lyric transcript and use the lyric service supported by the destination. Audio delivery, songwriter credits and synchronised lyrics are separate records; one does not automatically complete the others.
Start with the final vocal recording
Transcribe what is actually sung in the approved version. A clean edit, translation, live rendition or revised verse may need a different transcript from the original demo. Keep the recording identifier, language, version and approved text together. Confirm permission to submit the lyrics, especially for a cover or material controlled by another rightsholder.
Check the Spotify-specific route
Spotify identifies Musixmatch as its provider for licensed and synchronised lyrics and describes a verification route with a free tier for adding, editing and syncing Spotify lyrics. It identifies PetitLyrics as the route for lyrics shown to listeners in Japan. These are external lyric processes; this guide does not claim that DistroBolt has an integrated lyrics-submission button or that the same provider covers every platform or territory.
Prepare the text before opening a tool
- Use the approved vocal version and the original writing system where appropriate.
- Write every repeated line as required by the destination, rather than replacing an entire chorus with a vague repetition note.
- Check spelling, line breaks and where a line is spoken or sung.
- Keep stage directions, credits, promotional messages and unrelated explanations out of the lyrical text unless the actual provider’s formatting rules ask for them.
- Have an authorised reviewer compare the transcript with the recording before submission.
Keep plain text and timing separate
A correct transcript can still be poorly synchronised. Work through the recording line by line when timing is supported and check the start of each phrase. Save the text approval and timing review separately. Do not change the master’s start or edit after syncing without reviewing the relationship between the audio and the lyrics.
An alternate-version example
An artist has explicit and clean recordings with different words in the second verse. They keep two clearly labelled transcripts tied to the correct recordings rather than attaching the explicit text to both. When a listener reports a mismatch, the artist can supply the actual version and affected line. This is a quality-control example, not a promise that every store displays both versions’ lyrics.
If lyrics are missing or wrong
Check the artist identity, recording, language and territory first. Keep the provider’s request reference and the exact incorrect line. Changes may need processing and licensing review; a successful submission is not an immediate display guarantee. If the wrong audio or artist credit was delivered, use DistroBolt’s metadata correction guidance instead of trying to solve it only in a lyric tool.
Understand what lyrics do not settle
Visible lyrics do not prove copyright ownership, register a composition or establish a songwriter’s payment share. Use the publishing guide for representation and recording-income splits for the separate payment workflow. Ask DistroBolt which assistance is actually available before buying or assuming an additional service.
Common questions
Does distributing my WAV automatically submit synced lyrics?
That is not confirmed as a DistroBolt feature here. Check the destination’s supported lyric process separately.
Can I paste the demo lyrics into every version?
Compare the text with the exact delivered recording first. Edits, languages and live versions can differ.
