DISTROBOLT ARTIST GUIDES
Use Bandcamp alongside a distributor without confusing rights
Bandcamp can complement distributed streaming releases with a direct-to-fan page. Keep its upload, sales settings and reporting separate from the distributor, while ensuring the recording versions and rights arrangements remain coherent.
Confirm the relationship between the routes
Bandcamp says it does not require exclusive rights and does not provide distribution to other platforms. That allows parallel release planning from Bandcamp’s side; it does not override any separate agreement you have signed. Review your actual recording, artwork and collaborator permissions before publishing or selling.
Prepare a matching product record
Use the intended masters, track order, approved credits and clear edition description. Bandcamp’s file requirements need to be checked for its own upload. A bonus edition sold directly can differ from the streaming edition, so explain the difference without silently treating different audio as the same recording. Keep the source files and approval history.
Keep income and responsibilities distinct
Track Bandcamp sales and the applicable charges separately from distribution royalties. Do not assume DistroBolt receives those sales or automatically pays collaborators from them. Agree the relevant accounting process and retain the underlying reports. Publishing collection may involve separate arrangements; check the applicable Bandcamp guidance and your own affiliations rather than assuming one universal payout route.
Give fans clear choices
Link the artist’s verified Bandcamp product from a substantive release page alongside confirmed streaming links. Label a direct purchase as a purchase rather than a pre-save or free download. Test the selected product and price without placing a real order. Keep contact and privacy choices clear. This guide does not promise automatic Bandcamp delivery or account linking through DistroBolt.
