CATALOGUE TRANSFER
Content ID when moving your music to DistroBolt
Tell us who currently manages Content ID for each recording before changing its administration. Plan the handover separately from ordinary music distribution, so the team can check existing references, territories and claims.
What does Content ID do?
YouTube can compare uploaded videos with reference material supplied through Content ID. A match can result in a claim which monetizes, tracks or blocks a video, depending on the applicable policy and territory. A Content ID claim is different from a copyright strike or a removal request. YouTube: understanding copyright claims.
Being able to distribute a track does not settle Content ID eligibility
YouTube requires exclusive rights to the reference material in the territories claimed, and the material must meet its reference-content rules. Tell us about samples, third-party beats, loops, licences and earlier administration agreements. Permission to release a track should not be treated as automatic confirmation that it qualifies as a Content ID reference. YouTube: content eligible for Content ID.
Prepare a Content ID inventory
- Track title, artist and existing ISRC.
- The current distributor or Content ID administrator.
- Whether Content ID is currently enabled, disabled or unknown.
- The territories and recordings covered by your administration agreement.
- Existing reference or asset identifiers, if available.
- Any open claims, disputes or ownership conflicts.
- Your own YouTube channel and relevant video links.
Use your existing records. Mark missing details as unknown instead of guessing. The catalogue-transfer guide explains the wider release inventory.
Coordinate the handover before enabling another reference
YouTube identifies overlapping references and conflicting ownership assertions as issues requiring review. Ask DistroBolt to confirm the intended sequence with your current administrator before making changes. Do not assume that removing a store release automatically removes its Content ID administration or clears existing claims. YouTube: reference overlaps and ownership conflicts.
The team must assess the actual recording and agreement. This guide does not promise an automatic transfer, uninterrupted monetization or a fixed handover date.
A claim appeared on your own video
Record the video URL, claimant name, claimed recording, affected segment, territories and the action shown in the notice. Include any case reference and tell us whether you have already responded. An unfamiliar claimant name alone does not establish that the claim is incorrect. Do not treat a Content ID claim and a copyright strike as interchangeable.
Ask for clarification of the specific claim before assuming it should be removed. If you are facing a formal removal request or a rights dispute, tell us that explicitly; it is a different issue from coordinating routine distribution.
Keep a record after the handover
Retain confirmation from the administrators, relevant dates and claim references. Check the recordings and videos you identified, and report any remaining discrepancy with its exact URL. Keep old royalty statements separately; a change of administrator does not itself establish what happened to earlier revenue.
Plan your catalogue move with DistroBolt
Send the recording list and current Content ID administrator so we can identify what needs checking. Do not send passwords, login codes or unrelated private documents.
Ask DistroBolt about a Content ID handoverFor broader help with the move, request a catalogue assessment. Ordinary support questions do not require a Marketplace purchase.
