DISTROBOLT ARTIST GUIDES

How early should you submit a music release?

Plan backwards from the release date and leave room for corrections. Delivery, store processing and editorial pitching are separate steps. A successful upload does not prove that every destination has accepted or scheduled the release.

Choose a planning buffer, then confirm it

For an organised campaign, you might reserve four weeks as an internal working buffer. That is a planning example, not a DistroBolt delivery promise or a universal platform rule. Ask for the current submission requirements for your release type and destinations before announcing a date. Allow extra time for rights questions, first-time profile mapping, complex credits and corrected artwork.

Use distinct milestones

First freeze the approved master, artwork, credits and rights evidence. Next submit and resolve distributor validation issues. Then confirm the release appears correctly in the relevant artist tools and verify the selected date. Finally prepare pitching, press and fan links. Assign an owner to each milestone; a reminder without an accountable person does not resolve a rejected file.

Leave space for Spotify pitching

Spotify’s guidance calls for pitching at least seven days before release for follower Release Radar inclusion. The music must be available in the appropriate upcoming-release workflow before you can pitch it. Seven days before release is therefore not a sensible substitute for an overall delivery buffer. Pitching does not guarantee editorial playlist placement, and the platform’s current conditions still apply.

Have a correction decision ready

If a critical problem remains close to launch, compare a revised campaign date with the consequences of proceeding. Contact support with the release reference, affected destination and exact error. Avoid repeated uploads that create competing versions. Update collaborators and scheduled posts once a revised date is confirmed. Keep the final approved files and delivery history in your release archive.
