DISTROBOLT ARTIST GUIDES
Release titles: avoid promotional and misleading metadata
A release title should identify the music accurately. Keep advertising copy, campaign slogans and unrelated search terms in approved promotional material rather than forcing them into the metadata delivered to stores.
Start from the approved work title
Record the core release title and any supported version description. Compare it with the artwork, track list and artist-approved brief. Example: if the approved title is Northern Lights, do not submit Northern Lights — Buy Now at Our Website merely to carry a campaign message into a store listing.
Remove misleading additions
Review URLs, prices, store names, unsupported collaboration claims and technical marketing language before submission. Apple’s style guide excludes a number of promotional and technical descriptors from titles. Apply the current destination rules to the actual field; do not assume that punctuation alone makes an otherwise misleading claim acceptable.
Use the correct credit fields
Keep featured artists and other contributors in the appropriate supported role fields. Do not name a famous artist in a title to imply participation that did not happen. Resolve the actual contributor approval and rights records before delivery. Store-generated formatting may differ, so avoid manually duplicating text that the destination adds from role metadata.
Keep SEO on the right page
A public release page can explain the music, approved credits and story in useful readable text. Its page title and description should describe that content honestly. Repeating keywords inside the song title is not a shortcut to better SEO. Keep one approved metadata snapshot and use it when reporting any mismatch after delivery; this avoids competing corrections from different campaign assets.
