Change your Apple Music artist image: access, files and review
Use the authorised Apple Music for Artists team to update the artist image. Prepare a rights-cleared file that meets Apple’s image requirements, check the crop and review status, and keep this separate from changing release artwork.
Check the artist and access first
Identify the correct artist page and confirm that you can manage it in Apple Music for Artists. Apple’s upload guidance allows Admin or Profile Editor permissions. If the artist claim or team invitation is unresolved, follow the Apple Music guide rather than sharing an Apple Account password. A DistroBolt login is a different account.
Prepare an appropriate image
Apple currently accepts JPG or PNG artist images, prefers at least 2400 × 2400 pixels and states an 800 × 800 minimum without upscaling. Check the current guidelines before export. Use a photograph or appropriate artist identity asset you are authorised to publish. The image should represent the artist, not function as an advertisement or an album-cover replacement.
Make an approval record
- Artist and exact public profile link.
- Approved image filename and its original source.
- Photographer or designer permission and any relevant restrictions.
- The person authorised to approve the artist representation.
- A checked export and the intended crop.
- The authorised team member responsible for submission and follow-up.
Keep sensitive permissions or contracts privately. A public profile picture does not need to expose the team’s private approval notes.
Follow the verified web route
In Apple Music for Artists, select the artist, then Artist Content → Artist Page → Edit in the Image section. Choose the file, adjust it in the crop tool and submit when the authorised team is ready. Apple reviews submissions. This guide does not submit an image, change a role or guarantee acceptance or a particular completion time.
Review the crop as a listener would see it
Preview the subject at small size and inspect the edges. Keep the important features within the tool’s guides. A portrait approved as a rectangular press photo may crop poorly in an artist image. Ask the photographer or designer for an appropriate source or crop rather than enlarging a poor thumbnail. Apple’s guidelines also address logos; review the actual asset instead of assuming every transparent logo export is suitable.
An image-review example
A band selects a permitted group photograph. In the crop preview, one member is partly outside the frame. The team obtains a better composition, checks the export and records that as the approved file before submitting it. This hypothetical example shows why possession of a photograph and approval of a usable crop are separate checks; it does not promise any increase in listeners.
If the image is rejected or the page is wrong
Read the specific review feedback and compare it with the submitted file and crop. Keep the status, filename and reference for a focused enquiry. If music belongs to the wrong artist page, use the mapping guide; an image change will not repair that delivery. If you need a different release cover, use the artwork guide. DistroBolt can help identify the right question, while Apple controls its artist-image review.
Common questions
Does changing the artist photo change an album cover?
No. Artist identity imagery and delivered release artwork use different records and requirements.
Can DistroBolt guarantee Apple approves my image?
No. The authorised team can prepare the file and follow the review process, but the platform decides the outcome.
