ARTIST DISCOVERY, PROFILES AND CREDITS

Song credits on Spotify: check and correct writers, producers and performers

Check song credits against the approved track record, then ask the responsible distributor or label to review missing or incorrect information. A credit, a clickable songwriter name, a copyright share and a royalty split are separate records.

Build a track-level credits sheet

For each recording, list the actual contributors and agreed roles alongside the exact track title, version and existing ISRC. Keep performance, songwriting and production roles separate. Confirm each person’s approved credit spelling privately before delivery, including which names belong to the artist billing. The main and featured artist guide explains billing; use this sheet for the wider contributor record.

Distinguish four different questions

  • Display: who should be named for the work they actually did?
  • Identity: which person or artist profile does that name refer to?
  • Rights: what does the relevant agreement establish about the song or recording?
  • Payment: how is the agreed recording income allocated and reported?

A producer can also write or perform on a recording, but one role does not automatically prove another. Changing a visible name is not a substitute for agreeing the ownership or payment arrangement. Use the publishing guide and the recording-income split guide for those separate decisions.

Prepare the DistroBolt submission

Use New Release → Audio Release in the approved account and enter accurate contributor information in the fields provided. Keep the complete sheet available for review. If a particular role or name format is unclear, ask DistroBolt which supported field or correction route applies before submission. Confirm the track-level record as well as the release’s main artists; the existence of a credit in your private document does not prove that every destination has received it.

Check the public Spotify result

Spotify displays credits supplied in label or distributor metadata. Open the intended track’s song-credit view and compare it with your approved sheet. Confirm the recording and version first, then note the displayed roles and names. Keep the track link, date and a clear record of any difference. A profile biography, a cover image and a song’s credits are different publishing surfaces; changing one does not necessarily update the others.

Send one precise correction request

  • DistroBolt release reference, track title, version and ISRC where available.
  • Exact Spotify track link and the field or role that is wrong.
  • Current display, requested correction and approved name spelling.
  • The basis for the correction and any collaborator approval needed.
  • Existing support reference and date if the same update is already under review.

Ask the team to review the metadata update rather than repeatedly uploading the track. Keep relevant evidence ready, but do not send unrelated financial records, identity documents or login details. The metadata correction guide covers the broader release-change process.

An original correction example

A hypothetical three-person project correctly credits its two performing artists, but the approved writer credit is missing for one track. The team sends the specific track link and the agreed writer spelling, and asks which submitted record needs correction. They leave the artist billing and agreed payment split unchanged while the metadata is reviewed. The example illustrates an enquiry, not a decision about anyone’s legal entitlement.

Understand clickable names and timing

Spotify says clickable songwriter credits depend on its Songwriter Page and linked Written By playlist setup, which remains in beta. A plain-text name therefore does not by itself show an incorrect royalty share or missing distribution. Platform processing and role support can differ; ask DistroBolt to confirm the available route for your case. No fixed update deadline, songwriter-page approval or universal display outcome is promised. After an update, recheck the exact track before closing the enquiry.

Common questions

Does a visible credit automatically pay the contributor?

No. Agree and configure the actual payment arrangement separately, and check the relevant reports. A credit is not a payout instruction.

Can I fix delivered credits by editing my Spotify biography?

The biography is a different surface. Bring the track’s metadata issue to the responsible distributor or label.

Does a non-clickable songwriter name mean the song is registered incorrectly?

Not necessarily. Clickable songwriter features have separate requirements. Check the actual identity and rights records rather than drawing a conclusion from a link alone.
