DISTROBOLT ARTIST GUIDES
Smartlink clicks are not streams: measure the difference
A smartlink measures interactions with a link page, while a music service records listening under its own rules. Keep both stages visible instead of reporting every button press as a stream.
Map the journey
Separate page visit, destination-button click, store or app opening, playback and later engagement. A visitor can click twice, abandon the handoff or choose a service where the track is unavailable. Record what the actual tool measures rather than inventing the unobserved steps.
Use a clear numerical example
Suppose a page reports 100 visits and 30 outbound clicks. That is a 30% outbound-click ratio for those definitions, not proof of 30 streams or 30 different listeners. The example also does not establish whether the visits were unique people or whether one person used several buttons.
Compare platform data carefully
Spotify defines a qualifying stream within its own reporting system. Check the service, recording and period before comparing a campaign window with artist analytics. Keep time zones, reporting delays and overlapping activity in mind. Do not add incompatible counts into a single fan total.
Report useful conclusions honestly
A broken destination or low button engagement can suggest a page problem worth testing. A listening increase may be consistent with a campaign without proving its sole cause. Keep the stated limitation and one next action. This guide does not provide cross-platform identity matching, guaranteed attribution or a DistroBolt stream-tracking API.
