DISTROBOLT ARTIST GUIDES
Transcribe background vocals and overlapping parts clearly
Background vocals and overlapping parts need a readable, destination-appropriate transcription. Identify what is heard before deciding how to display it; a featured lead line and a quiet backing response are not automatically the same type of content.
Map the vocal parts privately
Use the final master and, where authorised and helpful, relevant stems to distinguish lead, backing response, doubled words and non-word vocals. Record uncertain words for artist review. Do not invent a lyric to fill a sound you cannot confidently identify.
Keep the example separate from submission rules
For invented audio, a lead line “We leave at dawn” and a backing response “At dawn” can be noted as two parts in a review sheet. That working annotation does not establish the correct destination syntax. Ask how the actual route expects overlapping or background content to be represented.
Apply the receiving guidance
Apple’s artist guideline describes parentheses for background content, while its detailed style guidance also addresses vocal formatting. Follow the specific supported submission route and seek clarification if instructions differ for the actual case. Do not promote one informal transcript convention as a universal cross-platform rule.
Review in continuous playback
Check whether the text remains readable and represents the actual sequence, especially where voices overlap or repeat different words. Have the artist approve unresolved passages. Keep timing questions distinct from lyric content and performer credits. This guide does not guarantee that every service displays multiple simultaneous lyric parts or provides word-level vocal separation.
