DISTROBOLT ARTIST GUIDES
Match lyrics to censored and clean recordings
Use a lyric sheet that matches the actual explicit, clean or censored recording. A shared song title does not justify delivering the same text file for every audio version.
Identify the exact master
Record the recording reference, version, source file and classification. Listen to the delivered export rather than relying on a clean label in a folder. Check whether words were muted, replaced, partially obscured or left fully audible.
Follow the destination’s censoring rule
Apple’s artist guideline requires censored words to be represented using asterisks and explicit words to follow what is heard. Its rule is not permission to censor every destination’s titles or invent absent words. Keep lyric formatting separate from the recording’s explicit-content flag.
Compare replacement words carefully
If a clean version substitutes a different performed word, record that actual wording under the relevant provider’s guidance. Do not copy a stronger word from an uncensored master merely because it was in the original writing draft. A changed edit can also need a fresh timing pass.
Approve separate version records
Keep each lyric sheet, approval and timing source tied to the intended recording. Review any metadata classification error through the appropriate correction route. Verify the public result after submission without promising instant updates. This guide does not change a flag, replace audio or determine the correct classification automatically.
