PLATFORMS, RIGHTS AND RELEASE SUPPORT
Spotify for Artists: claim access and manage your profile
Spotify for Artists gives authorised artists and teams access to profile tools, audience data and eligible promotion features. Claiming access does not deliver a release, transfer ownership or automatically fix a catalogue mix-up.
Identify which account or page you need
- Spotify account: the login you use to access Spotify services.
- Artist profile: the public artist identity associated with delivered music.
- Spotify for Artists team: the permissions that allow authorised people to manage that artist in the tools.
- DistroBolt account: your separate distribution account for release preparation, delivery and relevant recording-income reports.
Prepare a claim for the right profile
Find the exact public artist link and check the recordings on it, not only the name. Have your official artist website or public social identity ready to establish your relationship to the artist. Use accurate information and the platform’s own secure request flow; do not send login credentials or verification codes to DistroBolt.
Choose the appropriate access route
- If the artist team is unclaimed, use Spotify for Artists to submit the artist or manager access request and provide the requested verification. Spotify reviews claims; DistroBolt does not guarantee the outcome or an approval time.
- If the team is already claimed, ask its Admin to invite you. Claiming a second team is not a substitute for the existing administrator’s access process.
- Before a first release, ask the distributor about the artist link or URI and the upcoming release identifiers. Spotify has a support route for that situation; do not invent a URI or claim an unrelated page.
- If a request is pending, check its status and the platform’s messages. Do not repeatedly create competing claims for the same profile.
Set up the profile with verified material
After approval, review the tools and permissions available to you. Keep your artist identity, images and biography accurate and use only materials you are authorised to publish. Agree who maintains the page and who approves changes. An authorised team role is better than sharing one password among band members.
Use the tools for their actual job
- Review audience analytics with consistent periods and definitions. A listener count is not a royalty statement.
- Prepare eligible upcoming music for editorial consideration using the release-plan pitching checks. A pitch is not a playlist guarantee.
- Investigate whether a Countdown Page is available for the specific artist and release; do not treat a public monthly-listener number as proof of eligibility.
- For delivered titles, credits, artwork or dates, contact the distributor rather than assuming profile-edit access can change the recording metadata.
If something is wrong
Separate a login problem from a profile-access problem, a delivered metadata error and incorrect artist mapping. A person can have access to the right team while a release still sits on the wrong page. Use the artist-profile correction guide for mapping, or the metadata guide for release information. Include any existing case reference so the team can avoid conflicting requests.
What DistroBolt can help confirm
Bring your artist link, release reference and the issue you are trying to solve. We can help distinguish delivery questions from platform-access questions. This guide does not claim a DistroBolt instant-access integration, change team permissions or promise access to every Spotify feature.
Common questions
Does paying for distribution automatically approve my Spotify claim?
No. Distribution and platform team access have separate checks. Do not buy another plan to resolve a claim unless a specific relevant requirement has been confirmed.
Can a manager use the same artist tools?
Authorised managers can use the relevant claim or team-invitation route. Access depends on the platform’s verification and assigned role, not just a private agreement to manage the artist.

Track assets beyond delivery
Update artist images through the appropriate tool
Spotify’s current image guidance is for Admins and Editors. On desktop, use View profile and the edit control, then Update for the intended avatar or header. In the Spotify for Artists mobile app, use Profile → Edit Image for the avatar. The mobile web browser does not support avatar updates. Header updates require desktop rather than mobile web or the artist app. Choose the image type deliberately, since avatar, header and gallery appear in different places.
Prepare an authorised source image and inspect the crop in the relevant tool. A profile image is different from delivered release artwork or a Canvas. Keep the approved filename and check the actual public display after processing; no fixed display-update time is promised here. Use approved press-image records and the separate release-artwork checklist as appropriate.
Prepare the correct profile-image file
Spotify currently accepts JPEG, PNG or GIF profile images up to 20 MB. Prepare at least 750 × 750 pixels for an avatar, 2660 × 1140 for a header and 690 × 500 for gallery images. These are artist-profile specifications, separate from release artwork and Canvas files.
Use an authorised image without text, advertising or a busy background; do not turn it into an upcoming-tour or release advertisement. Check consent and image rights, then inspect the crop in the actual tool. A higher pixel count does not fix an unclear or unauthorised source photo.
For the gallery on the web, open View profile → About and use Add an image gallery or the edit control. In the artist app, use Profile → About → Add or EDIT. Keep the original filename and approval in your press-asset record, and check the public profile after processing.
